Why does my heart ache?
Why does it feel about to break
Do I care more than I should?
Could it make a difference if it would?

Is this what we put You through?
Is this what we have done to You?
Is that why You came to die?
Leaving Your Father’s home on high?

Why when You knew from the start
We would trample and break Your heart
Why did You create mankind?
Why were we so strong on Your mind?

Is it because You are a God who cares?
Your love and mercy You wanted to share?
Is it because You never give up, never say why?
Giving us the same heart, to always try?

Is that why You share Your heart with us?
To give those of us a hint who are clueless
To give us a glimpse of Your wondrous love?
And a glimpse of our future home up above

Where all who accept and follow You
Will go to live when this life is through
To help us understand Your precious Son
Who was with You when the world was begun

You who knew us before we were formed
We can know You and be transformed
We can follow You and share Your heart
Is that why I feel my heart torn apart?

Lord, thank You for helping me to care
For giving a heart so willing to share
In the heartaches and pain of those You love
To spread the good news of a home up above
