BANNERS

In the salvation of our Lord we will rejoice
We will sing to Him with joyous voice
For the One who went to the cross to die
We will unfurl our banners and set them high

For He is our King and His princely head
Was crowned with thorns and was blood drenched red
And the banner of evil highly fluttered
As Jesus cried in triumph and these words He uttered

It is finished; it is finished and the debt was paid
Lift now a royal emblem and let it be displayed
For He give to them a banner who fear and Him love
And for His truth let it fly from above

It is the banner of the cross; unfurl it to the breeze
Its colours will fly over us when we pray on our knees
It will go before us when we march to fight
In the army of our Lord; it will be always be in our sight

Long are the battles and the wounds are sore
And sometimes we despair and cannot take anymore
We long for rest and from the fight we have drifted
But we are always drawn back to the banner uplifted

It is blood spattered and ragged as it flies from its pole
But still it urges me on and beckons to my soul
Stand up for Jesus its fluttering calls to me
I fly here for you the blood bought and free

Weary one rally again; for the fight will be done
Victory assured and a crown that is won
And you will be dressed in robes that are white
For you have followed His banner home to mansions bright

And there is rest for you and a Father will greet
Come my dear children and take your seat
At a banqueting table in His home up above
And over it will fly the banner of God’s eternal love
